That's what I already do, except that with a default x2goserver install
this results in a default XFCE session instead of a Xubuntu one, regardless
of whether x2goserver-xsession is installed.

The only way I've been able to get a proper Xubuntu session via x2go is to
run a custom script that sets a missing environment variable before calling
startxfce4.
