We do intend to support XPath 2.0 and XSLT 2.0. As you noted, the "xslt20"
branch of the CVS server is an early and fragmentary prototype of some of
that functionality. It really isn't ready to be folded back into the
main-line code.
I've had to set that effort aside to work on some other priorities, so I
don't think I can give you an estimated date at this point. I won't be
offended if someone else picks it up and continues the effort before I do,
