You should be able to install festival that way. Where did you try the "make distclean"? That should work in xastir's build directory whether you have festival installed or not. The process should go something like this: sudo apt-get install festival-dev (it might be enough to install "festival", but this makes sure that headers and libraries are installed, too) cd ~/src/XASTIR/xastir cvs update ./bootstrap.sh cd ../build make distclean ../xastir/configure make && sudo make install At that point festival should show up in configure's final output as being enabled. > Also, I can't find any way to turn off the screensaver in the GUI.
