AiJun, Thx for the update.
Try to restart named then see if you could find any messages in the /var/log/messages? make sure the rsyslog is running. I do not have centos6.2 at hand, but rhel6.2, when "makedns -n" is called, there is something like below in the /var/log/messages: Jun 28 20:06:02 defiant named[21673]: client 10.1.0.225#58067: signer "xcat_key" approved Jun 28 20:06:02 defiant named[21673]: client 10.1.0.225#58067: updating zone 'ppd.pok.ibm.com/IN': adding an RR at 'x3550m2n03.ppd.pok.ibm.com' A Jun 28 20:06:02 defiant named[21673]: client 10.1.0.225#58067: updating zone 'ppd.pok.ibm.com/IN': adding an RR at 'x3550m2n03-pub.ppd.pok.ibm.com' A Jun 28 20:06:02 defiant named[21673]: client 10.1.0.225#58067: updating zone 'ppd.pok.ibm.com/IN': adding an RR at 'x3550m4n01.ppd.pok.ibm.com' A Jun 28 20:06:02 defiant named[21673]: client 10.1.0.225#58067: updating zone 'ppd.pok.ibm.com/IN': adding an RR at 'x3550m4n02.ppd.pok.ibm.com' A Jun 28 20:06:02 defiant named[21673]: client 10.1.0.225#58067: updating zone 'ppd.pok.ibm.com/IN': adding an RR at 'x3550m4n01-bmc.ppd.pok.ibm.com' A Jun 28 20:06:02 defiant named[21673]: client 10.1.0.225#58067: updating zone 'ppd.pok.ibm.com/IN': adding an RR at 'x3550m4n02-bmc.ppd.pok.ibm.com' A Jun 28 20:06:02 defiant named[21673]: client 10.1.0.225#58067: updating zone 'ppd.pok.ibm.com/IN': adding an RR at 'defiant.ppd.pok.ibm.com' A Jun 28 20:06:02 defiant named[21673]: client 10.1.0.225#58067: updating zone 'ppd.pok.ibm.com/IN': adding an RR at 'defiant-bmc.ppd.pok.ibm.com' A this indicates the dns records were added to named, and the .jnl files generated. Never noticed that before since the hosts file is getting written out on the management node properly. I know Bind can write to /var/named fine, because if I delete the db file and re-run makedns, it makes the db file - but it only contains the mgmt node, not my one compute node record (even though the output shows "Handling cn1". The hosts table contains the cn1 record, and it writes that record to /etc/hosts as expected. Restarting Bind does not write the cn1 record into the db file. This is on CentOS 6.
