Many thanks for the replies. Sorry, I've just paranoid question as I installed 
the xCAT server on a re-installed CentOS node (due to pushy project 
requirements). Before giving it another try:
@Matthew, Winfried: the work around you described completely solved the issue 
(bug) and the (your) xCAT instance is running smoothly on sles15.3? Many 
thanks in advance.
