Hello Frank,

We also had other problems with SLES15SP3. I think the support of SLES is not optimal with xCat because it is rarely used. If I had the choice, I would use another distro.

As far as I remember we had two other issues with xCat and SLES15SP3:

* xCAT did not install apache2 automatically anymore and current xcat apache configuration is not compatible to apache2-2.4.43

* xCAT did not use the propper Module imptcp.so (/etc/rsyslog.d/remote.conf). Instead it uses imtcp.so, which conflicts with our tls-client.conf and its ActionSendStreamDriverMode

Hello all,
Many thanks for the replies. Sorry, I've just paranoid question as I installed
the xCAT server on a re-installed CentOS node (due to pushy project
requirements). Before giving it another try:
@Matthew, Winfried: the work around you described completely solved the issue
(bug) and the (your) xCAT instance is running smoothly on sles15.3? Many
thanks in advance.
Cheers,

we have installed "net-tools-deprecated" which contains "netstat" from
repository "SLE-Module-Legacy15-SP3-Pool" (SUSEConnect -p
sle-module-legacy/15.3/x86_64) to workaround this.

Hi Frank,

I'm setting up xcat on sle15sp3 right now and also encountered that issue.

You need to install "insserv-compat" so that system can start xcatd.

The next issue I've run into is:

test:~ # xcatprobe xcatmn
[mn]: Checking all xCAT daemons are running...

[mn]: Attribute 'xcatdport' in 'site' table is set to 3001, but xcatd

Although lsdef is working fine. I've tracked this down to xcatmn using
'netstat' to check the port status, and sle15sp3 no longer contains netstat.
This needs to be raised as a bug.

Matt

Hello all,

I?d like to run the xCAT server instance on sles15.3. The release nodes
seems to state that sles15 is supported:
Anyway a test installation instance failed to start with
?xcatd[6834]: Error, don't know how to start on this platform?
I guess sles15 maps to sles15.0?

Does anyone know which sles15.x can be used for the server instance?
Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,

-Frank Heckes

Frank,

Currently xCAT 2.16.3 supports SLES 15.1 on Power and SLES 15.2 on x86.

Have you tried running "xcatprobe xcatmn" to see if there is some
environment configuration problem ?
