The downloads section in Developer has historic Xcode dmgs that I have found useful. On previous occasions, I've dumped entire systems (OSX) and started again. I keep downloaded Xcode dmgs on backup drives for sometime, then purge!!! If u r crashing, may pay to try on another clean system. I too have had crashes on compromised(!) OSX test and experimental systems.
