Hi Robert, check XY's Altair firmware as I believe that it has the most up to 
date version (not sure of the version number) and I have managed to run XCsoar 
off a USB stick using that version. 

I too am having flap switching problems as I have just updated the avionics 
wiring to include a flap switch on the vega. It is changing to circling mode 
but not back to cruise mode after leaving the thermal. I still have to check 
out the vega itself some more and update to latest version of xcsoar (still 
behind the times running version 6.1.4) before I make my problems public. For 
the meantime I have just changed flap forces cruise to "off" and I think XCsoar 
goes off your gps position for circling/cruising pages. It still works although 
a little delayed.
