Do what everyone else does and grab it from cvs and run ant. Avoid maven altogether. Maven is (thankfully) only used when generating docs, and you can just view those off the website.

An update

After downloading the source for XDoclet 1.2b3, I found out that the source
requires xjavadoc.1.0.jar. So I downloaded that one and installed in the
XDoclet lib dir. Now, I can let ant run on the example.

Maven is still a problem. I get

[bietelke:xdoclet/xdoclet-bin-1.2b3/samples] marc% maven java:compile
 __ __
| \/ |__ Jakarta _ ___
| |\/| / _` \ V / -_) ' \ ~ intelligent projects ~
|_|  |_\__,_|\_/\___|_||_|  v. 1.0-beta-9-SNAPSHOT

java:prepare-filesystem:
[mkdir] Created dir:
/Volumes/spare/JavaTools/xdoclet/xdoclet-bin-1.2b3/samples/target/ classes

BUILD FAILED
null:5419:39: <deploymentdescriptor> xjavadoc/Type
Total time: 14 seconds

regards

Marc

P.S. Sorry for the tone. I've been struggling for 2 days now to get Maven +
XDoclet to work (on the sample), hopping from one problem to the other.
