and, what's more, be able to communicate your interest to the people James alludes to above.

Michael's right, and I can't emphasize this enough: while James, Michael, myself, and other now-Oracle employees inhabit many of the lists on opensolaris.org, we're here primarily in a technical aspect, though we certainly have personal opinions. Realistically, our opinions don't have much impact (if any) on the direction management takes with a product. And we certainly are not authorized (or even could) speak to official directions of products, other than re-iterating what has already been publicly stated elsewhere.

YOU, the end-user (and, hopefully, purchaser of lots of expensive stuff!) are who they really listen to.

The primary way that you get to impact development is to communicate what you want (and, frankly, are willing to pay for) to Oracle Management. And the simplest, most effective, easiest way to do so is (1) TELL YOUR SALES REPRESENTATIVE (or whomever else you have a business relationship within Sun or Oracle) and (2) VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLARS - back up what you say with concrete examples to your SalePerson of how you spend your money. If they see you spending it on other folks, they're gonna want to know why (and how they can get a slice of that revenue).
