The archives should stay as they are so that users
always have access to old versions. However, I would
suggest the following:

   1) Rename xerces-j/ directory to xerces1-j so
      that it stays in line with our xerces2-j
      naming convention; and
   2) Add symbolic link for xerces2-j with the
      name xerces-j. (Or you could move the dir
      and make the link from xerces2-j to point
      to xerces-j. Doesn't matter, really.)

The idea would be to transition the project back to
its original directory. However, so many people have
bookmarks to "xerces2-j/" that we still need that
around. Hence the link.
