Hello,

I am running Gentoo Linux 1.4 and XFree 4.2.1 (-version printout included at the bottom) on a Pentium 4 with a geForce 2 MX 400 and an older Sun 21" GDM-5010PT monitor (sony trinitron tube). I am using the Nvidia driver for my video card, version 1.0-4191. I also tried the default one that came with my distribution. With either driver, my display seems to flicker a bit (sometimes more than others, with no real pattern as to why).

I don't know a lot about monitors, so I'll try to descibe the problem the best I can, though it's really hard to descibe. It's as if different horizontal sections of the monitor are shifting back and forth one direction, while the others are going another direction. So, if I am using Xterm, for example, two lines of text may seem to vibrate, or shift back and fourth in oppisite directions. It is really subtle though, and not always present. What is constant, however, is a very slight flickering and shifting I think one problem may be the refresh rate, which I don't know how to change or check. I have the horizontal and vertical refresh sync set to my monitor's specs; is there anything more I can do? I am running it in 1600x1200, and the monitor supports 85Hz at this resolution, but I don't think it's doing it. By the way, this problem occurs at other resolutions too.

Any suggestions on what I can do about this would be appreciated.
