Your goal will be *much* harder to reach without cooperation from distributions. My best guess is that most people *and* corporate user will not use XFree4.4. By "most people", I mean people without time or skill to grab the sources, compile and iron out integration problems. I don't think that corporation will mind the new licence (I may be wrong) but they will not discard the support from distributors.
