Probably, once there is stable metadata support in the XML:DB API it might be not that useful to support access to Xindice internals, yet yes, this might turn out to be good in the near future.
Also, I was planning to use XSLT for XML responses, which seems to me the most flexible way (also
this is cool, i thought about it, before i started developing xincon, but what is with the performace?
I don't think that performance can be an issue once you use Templates or (even better) XSLTC and the like. My guess is that a SAX-driven XSLT is probably faster (and a *lot* more flexible) than building a (J)DOM tree.

Yeah, but it forces you to have catalina even if you don't use it under Tomcat ;-)
In short: I'd like to work on this with you (given also that I see you are planning a rewrite). What about it?
let's do it! you will hear from me!
Cool ;-) I have my skeleton source code if you are interested in it, we might start to discuss this and see where we can go. The only problem now is source exchange... we might create a Sourceforge project which might turn out into a "scratchpad" area in Xindice CVS. Kimbro?
