Please correct me if I am wrong (my understanding of DNS is not a thourough
as I would like it to be) but doesn't a root request simply attempt to find
the actual DNS for a given server? In other words, root doesn't provide the
actual DNS but rather the location that the DNS request should be passed to,
right?

So, thinking back over some of the previous email about this, has it been
suggested that the problem is with the DNS request for the Hotmail/MSN
domain, or that the problem is with the domain the sender controls - if with
the Hotmail domain, then I follow your reasoning, but if there is a problem
with the sending domain, then it would be your DNS that would be the
responsible DNS for domain resolution, right? So, I can't remmeber (and
don't have the mail) what the final thought was on the Windows DNS, but if
you have a domain that is handled by yur DNS, and Hotmail or MSN make a
request about that domain when mail is sent to them, and your DNS server has
a problem (related to being Windows DNS) then might this be a problem, or do
I have this all wrong?
