Hi,

I’m just another idiot on a crusade to build their own arcade cabinet. I would like to use Linux as the operating system for obvious reasons, which brings me to Xmame. I have attempted to compile X Mame to use OpenGL on X11 still find the performance sluggish when compared to Dos or Win32 on the same hardware.

Am I doing anything stupid which is making X mame use software OpenGL rather than Hardware?

Here is what I did:

  1. install redhat linux 7.2
  2. download and install Nvidia’s X server for my GeForce 2 MX
  3. Run Chromium BSU ( confirm that openGL hardware is working
  4. Download xmame .58.2 source and untar.
  5. copy makefile.Unix Makefile
  6. make the following edits to the make file:
    disable DISPLAY=X11
    enable DISPLAY=xgl
change IL = ‘-DINLINE-static inline” to read IL = -DINLINE-static
    add –DGLU_VERSION_1_2 to the GLCFLAGS
    enable DGA=1
    make
  7. make install
  8. add modeline to my XFree86-4.conf files for 320x200
  9. exec xmame.xglfullscreen rome_name

Was there anything that I did wrong?

Is there anyway I can improve performance?
