I have a pair of gravis eleminator aftershock gamepads. They work great
most of the time, but there is one majorly annoying problem. The pads
have a button labeled "precision" by each of the two thumb hats (complete
with an LED to show if "precision" is enabled). If you accidentally puss
this button while playing a game in mame, the axis will no longer work
correctly. Usually after pushing the button mame seems to lock the
controller going one direction or another. This continues even if hit the
precision button again (turning precision off). Bumping the button is
very easy to do and it happens all the time.
The only way to get the controller to work again is to quit the game and
restart. The axis report just fine (precision or no) under jstest, so I'm
assuming it is an XMAME issue. Any ideas?

I've got this exact same controller. "Precision" mode on the controller drops the analog stick's maximum to about 0.42 instead of 0.94, which is probably getting ignored by xmame because it doesn't pass the 0.5 mark, or whatever xmame's threshold is.

On my system/aftershock, I can toggle "precision" without any problems, except for the fact that while it's on its movement is ignored by xmame. But I don't have to restart any games if it gets turned on by accident, I just turn it back off.

What game are you using? Though I doubt it, perhaps the analog input on that game is getting confused by the quick axis changing?
