That should not happen. When crashme first came out VMS was the only OS which could run it for longer than a few minutes without collapsing in a heap. Anything else, including the various UNIX varieties I tried it on at the time (all of which were commercial) collapsed really quickly. I hated VMS when I was a student too - mainly because the machines were locked down so tight that they became very very hard to use. In an environment where this is not true it rapidly becomes a lot nicer. As to the old chesnut of VMS/WNT - well NT was written from scratch, and though it shres some of the design it isn "based on VMS" really.
