What xmame needs is a way to output the command line options in a way that is easily parsed by front end. My front end (xmame-fe) uses the manhelp option to obtain a reasonable list of options, but it is still less than optimal. perhaps what we need is a -xmlhelp that will dump an XML representation of the availble options and the valid values. But what this won't help with is when a front end provides an abstraction of the option.
