Then I got a bunch of client side exceptions such as:

Could you please check your client side log file, it contains the 
complete stack trace of the reported
NullPointerException and send it to us?

( This is how the client logs it:
   log.warn(ME + ".update", "Error in client user code of update(): " + 
e.toString());
   e.printStackTrace();
  throw new XmlBlasterException(..) // this is what we see in the above 
server log
)
