Betty,

I'm perplexed as to how you made the mental leap from my comments about
modelled business process to standards bodies. No where in my comments did I
indicate that standards bodies, either national or international in scope,
were the appropriate place for process requirements analysis to take place.

As a matter of fact, as a result of my efforts on the X12 SITG and
co-managing the SITG OO-edi Demonstration Project, I am convinced that the
most appropriate place for process analysis and modeling is in the
respective industries and/or companies where the process knowledge resides.

I agree wholeheartedly with you that the business process should be
modeled. It isn't just EDI that has fallen on the sword on this
issue but other major information initiatives. It is a really
difficult area for standards bodies to model the business process
because every business is, or thinks they are unique.

One of the biggest challenges and barriers moving forward is that business
processes are difference and can change over time but the information
lives, in one form or another forever (or a very long time).
