Currently we are evaluating XML Mind. I have only run into one confusing issue
so far: I do not see how to view the XML source of a document.

Please refer to the FAQ:

How can I view in the XML source of my document?

I see how to view the structure, but not how to edit the XML directly. I
suspect that it has something to do with the Helper Applications, and I can
actually get the XML to open in a text editor that way, but I cannot get XML
Mind to see if the file is saved by the external application, or to detect that
the external application has exited. Can you please point me to the right
direction on this?

I'm sorry but I cannot reproduce this problem.

In comparison, Oxygen Author has a "Text" tab at the bottom of the interface
that lets you switch easily between text and WYSIWYG mode.

Oxygen Author has its roots in Oxygen XML Editor, a programmer's editor, so this is normal. In contrast, XMLmind XML Editor has been designed from the ground up to be used with *just* the word processor-like view.

With XMLmind XML Editor, there is simply no need to switch between text and ``WYSIWYG'' mode.

With XMLmind XML Editor, even the tree view is not useful. The best productivity tip we have is: use the word processor-like view and only the word processor-like view.

In the future, we are considering to add a ``XML source view'' of the document, but only for commercial reasons, not for usability reasons. Some users seem to ``panic'' when they cannot put their hands on the tags. When this is the case, the lack of built-in XML source editor is really a show-stopper.

Also, do you have a document or webpage which compares XML Mind to Oxygen
Author?

I'm sorry but the answer is no. The best we have is:

Features

--> More importantly, please start by carefully reading

Limitations

Doing this is *very* *important* before starting to evaluate XMLmind XML Editor.
