Tim,

I've been unable to boot Lucid since March 4th.  Great fun, huh? :)

With the alternate CD I can install but still cannot boot.  The behavior has
gone through various phases but I am now stuck at the purple Plymouth screen
like you but without the hard drive clicks.  I am still trying to figure
which bug is affecting me.  I've had behavior like these three throughout
the past few days:
