my advice check the /var/log file for the xserver log and see whether the mode specified in your XF86Config-4 is being chosen, as there are already pre-defined modes its possible that it is not using the mode lines that you have specified rather it is using the X server defined mode lines. what you can do is call the modeline that you have i.e 1280x1024 as 1280x1024a and then add that in your screen section as 1280x1024a and then see whether the x server is loading these modelines or not. regards bharat >> My working Config-file for 3.3.6 is here: >> <http://www.khaberz.de/XF86Config.txt> >> >> The one I'm trying to use for 4.0.2 is here: >> <http://www.khaberz.de/XF86Config-4.txt> >> >> Has anything particular changed between versions that could cause this >> problem? > > One thing is that the X server now has built-in modes, and it uses the best > one which fits into the constraints defined in Section "Monitor". So make sure > those reflect your monitor's abilities (it's better to specifiy small ranges > rather than fixed values to account for floating point inaccuracies). Sorry, I'm not sure I understand you correctly here, but I already have ranges for HorizSync and VertRefresh. Do you mean ranges rather than fixed values in the modeline themself? If so, how would I go about creating those? (The modelines I use for 3.3.6 are recommendations from te Card-Manufacturer and they work fine. Their support didn't knw what to do about the problems with 4.x though).
