Thanks for the tip, I got the XFree to compile and install ok. Or at least neither make World or make Install reported any errors at end. And only '***' lines were make [2] *** No rule to make target distclean. But however when I try to start X it still doesn't start and I get complaints that symbols are missing from libbitmap.a (i've included the full log to end of the message).
