Hi,

Running an IBM ThinkPad A30p with i830MP, ATI Radeon Mobility M6 LY 32MB
(which is becoming mainstraim quite quickly) and 1600x1200 LCD panel.

Redhat 7.2, kernel 2.4.16-0.9 (slightly patched to detect the i830MP
agpgart).

Situation :
---------

1. As stock XFree86 4.1.0 doesn't support the ATI M6 (can't detect panel
size), I've compiled and successfully installed X CVS a few times (the
latest 4.1.99.2, dated 20011212, quite nicely fixed the screen
distortions I experienced when switching between console and X).

2. The A30p includes *both* an SVideo-in and -out : Win2K reports an ATI
Rage Theatre (intermediate : Philips SAA7114).

To benefit from video-in and -out, I've installed the ati.2 binaries
from the Livid/GATOS-project. The theatre gets detected by X. As this
didn't solve my problem (see below), I've compiled and successfully
installed the latest ati.2 CVS source (2001/12/12) against my X CVS tree
too, unfortunately to no avail.

Problem :
-------

Starting any video-in application (xawtv 3.65, zapping 0.6.1) yields a
segmentation fault. I've included a debug log from both applications :
they both seem to segfault at the same execution point , either at 16 or
24 bpp.

If I run both apps with their respective Xv-disabled flag, they don't
segfault (but cannot find device /dev/video0, which is to be expected, I
guess) : so I gather this is Xv-related.

I've also run avview, but this gives me an empty window (no segfault) :
I do not have experience with tcl/tk, and didn't find instructions.

The kernel videodev module is loaded.

As I don't have the slightest idea whether Xv or ati_drv is at fault,
I'm sending this bug report to both livid-ati@ and xpert@.

I would highly appreciate any feedback/recommendations/patches whatsoever.

Kind regards,

Didier
