The capabilities of the panel in your case. A panel is a matrix of H rows
and 3W columns, where WxH is the maximum resolution it can natively
support. Generally, the higher the resolution the more expensive the panel
is, so many manufacturers sell the same model but equipped with different
panels.. For example Dell 8100 notebook can be bought with SXGA+
(1400x1050) or UXGA (1600x1200) panels (as of now).

My experience has been that retailers (like CompUSA) do not sell anything
better than XGA (1024x768). They outdate pretty fast and are rather
expensive. Perhaps this has changed by now..
