In Real Life, it has pretty much the opposite effect. A lot of Carl's theories were like that. As are a lot of the Roman Catholic Church's theories. If you want to end fanaticism, sorry, you're out of luck. Even preaching moderation often ends up being done fanatically! You can make a start by working against extremes (e.g. extreme materialism, which leads to undervaluation of life, and particularly human life) and by showing extremists (e.g. militant Muslims and Christians) where what they're doing is completely wrong from their own texts - and a safe distance.
