Is GNU Emacs working ? Unfortunately, I have no machine on which I can test the installation of a .deb package at the moment. I managed to build it blindly, but I didn't even try it (but since the previous ones were working fine, I didn't expect a problem). Can you try also to start Emacs with -debug-init ? You can also try the "plain" Xtla, without the Debian packaging. It's relatively easy to install. I'd be interested to know whether the bug is from the packaging or from Xtla itself indeed.
