Vincent, have you by any chance spoken with Jonathan about the rewrite he already did? because if we could get our hands on the code and it turns out to be widely accepted by the community, I don't see the sense in re-inventing the wheel :P ... I will hang around #edubuntu as well to be in contact with him.
