For what it's worth, for "normal" use I have no problems with LibreOffice:
in fact, I use it under windows because I simply despise the "ribbons" in
MS Office (more clicks for my normal needs). Yes, like a previous poster
mentioned, DOCX and XLSX support isn't that great in Libre, but DOC and XLS
works mostly fine. I found that reading XLSX and DOCX reading is better
than writing, so I usually save in DOC or XLS. No windoze user has
complained yet.
Agree with the previous email: I found that Office works fine under WINE in
linux. I think I had to make a small teak between native and WINE dll's wrt
rich text edit but after that it works very stable. I think I also had to
make a 32 bit WINE prefix to get it to install (my native linux/Wine is 64
bit)
VirtualBox also works fine and integrates pretty smoothly.
