Is he onto something? Yes. But he's too late, and the FopSpeen
solution is horrendously complex and will be very hard work to maintain
with all the varying components.

But he is onto something. The same thing Vexi is onto. Only Vexi is
closing in on a stable release. We offer a solution "for the masses"
that will work "on the computers of the masses" and will be ready in the
next couple of months.

All Vexi does is simple. It provides it's own widget/app building API.
The core (that implements the API) is compiled into native apps for
Windows, Linux, and Macs, and anything else that gets imlpemented. Then
the launcher using existing browser technology to shoehorn the right
core onto the client PC, and the core takes over. Since the widgets are
written using the same API as apps, you can extend the widgets easily.

It's flexible and powerful, and will produce apps that look and perform
like their native counterparts, only aren't native. And Vexi apps will
work on Windows from 95 through to Longhorn, and on Linux from 2.0
through to 2.6 on Gnome/KDE/your-DE/your-WM, on Mac OS X (no Mac OS 9
support yet), and recent flavours of Solaris.

That is a solution for the masses, and it's almost ready... look out for
the next release mid-to-end-July (Beta 3) that will show off support
like the above. It's the last beta and Vexi will go stable soon (August
or September) so be on the look out.
