The current NVIDIA driver still only supports RandR 1.1.
The xrandr command may not show new devices, but give it a try.

nvidia-settings + Detect Displays is the supported way to detect
hot plugged displays with the accelerated NVIDIA driver.

RandR 1.2 support *may* make it into the next major NVIDIA
driver release.
