You can add this to your xorg.conf file under the Monitor section:
In the "Monitor" Section:

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "NEC"
ModelName "MultiSync "
Option "dpms"
DisplaySize 433 271
HorizSync 30.0 - 81.0
VertRefresh 56.0 - 75.0

Modeline "1680x1050_75.00" 188.07 1680 1800 1984 2288 1050 1051 1054 1096
-HSync +Vsync
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Device0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"

You can do at 2560x1600 if your digital monitor will output it correctly (or
2048x1536, analog). TV Out output works up to 1920x1080 as well.
There are some known issues with Xserver 1.3, so hopefully we can get them
fixed in the upcoming Xorg 7.4.x release...
