Notes on DRI and Nvidia 81.78 driver for Solaris x86 ------------------------------------------------------------------
Here was a bit of a benchmark using direct rendering with an Nvidia 6200 AGP card and Nvidia 81.78 drivers (x86) on a Pentium4 2.5Ghz machine/Solaris 10. Glx gears -------------- 1345 FPS = 300x300 default window 187-247 FPS = 1024x768 resolution (full screen) 2725 FPS = default minimized window (must be due to page flipping limitation) 11340 FPS = (56700 frames/5 sec) shrink window size to minimum fgl_glxgears (spinning gears in a 3D cube) --------------------------- 70 FPS = (349 frames/5 secs) default window 84 FPS = (420 frames/ 5 secs) default window minimized Nvidia's drivers are #1 for OpenGL development on x86/AMD64 Solaris machines. If you use Sun's OpenGL 1.5 on SPARC machines, Sun OpenGL 1.5 produces some of the best high quality OpenGL rendering for Solaris platforms. The Mesa 3D library also does an excellent job at both 3D software rendering and DRI in most cases - yet the 3D rendering of Sun's OpenGL is superior.
