I had issues like that - both for an usb mouse and the ps/2 keyboard)
for a long time on my Tecra S1 laptop (single core cpu, zfs using lzjb
and gzip compression). The recent  putback for 6881015 into b129
has fixed these issues for me:

    6881015 ZFS write activity prevents other threads from running in a timely 
manner
