What happened to the project to revive XSun?
If you're referring to my offer to release Xsun source code, it never got
off the ground due to lack of interest. Since it didn't happen before
Sun was acquired, I'd now have to go find out the new process to get
approval to release them, but it doesn't seem worth the effort to do all
that work for code no one is interested in.
Last November there seemed to a significant amount of interest, so it
isn't quite true that no one is interested. But perhaps not enough to get
a project going? Quoting from a thread "XSun emancipation project":

Who is going to set up the project pages?
Alan, Ken, I or Mark?
If you're proposing it as a new project, then once the final proposal
is put forward to community vote, and approved by the core contributors,
you send it to project-setup to have the web space established, and
then the designated leaders will be able to put content on them.
I'm not going to have time to put into the project setup right now -
That was the last I ever heard, but it almost got off the ground!
How much interest would there have to be for you to feel it's worth it?
Perhaps you feel that Martin's modified Xorg might be a more realistic
solution if the numbers are too small. It seems sad that a piece of
software as widely used and as robust as XSun should die such an
ignominious death though. As the author almost a million of lines of
code, it always pains me when I see code just vanish, but XSun is a
special case (a work of art). I wonder if it would be worth reviving
the old thread to see if any of the original interest is still there.
The only known incompatibility I'm aware of is that the ffb drivers
only have Xsun support and current OpenSolaris only has Xorg provided.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Thanks for clarifying!
Thanks also for taking the time to reply -- Frank
