I agree entirely with your perspective. It is encouraging to note that one of the reasons, if not the main reason there is interest in this coming elections is that ordinary people are realizing the threat posed by those that they supported all this time, those that the massess gave their full approval to lead them both in the movement and in government.
It is equally bizzare to note that these massess are not being led to this conclusion instead some of us undermine them, thinking that because no one sings them praise songs, they have no brains. The first one to say this loudly was Lekota who thought, in fact he still does, that when the massess sing Umshin'wam they are being dragged by the scuff by an opportunistic Zuma who wants to use the struggle for fighting his personal ills. This chauvinistic and elitist thinking cost the ANC through Mbeki and his elitist circle, now Shikota, an opportunity to advance the people's revolution. For now the mandate is clear, Polokwane conference was very clear, as determined as hell, that the working class must dictate their own destiny. The massess are never wrong, so said one of the fathers of our revolution, Cde OR Tambo. The sooner we check our elitist approach to the revolution and stop frogmarching the massess the sooner we burry Shikota. One big credit for the Zuma led ANC is the opennes of the movement to give space for ordinary activists to play a role in transforming society. The attendance of ordinary people to our rallies at this particular juncture is testimony to their burning desire to associate themselves with the struggle for national liberation (NDR). What we (leadership elite) are not doing right is to continue doing exactly what the Shikota's did when they were still in charge of the ANC, i.e. arrogance, intolerance, lack of self criticism, disrespect for the poor and unknown citizens, carreerism and triumphalism. Though I run the risk of sending an unintended message in this paragraph, let me quickly demonstrate my point. Honestly, there are areas like the Western Cape, where we seem to be jostling over carreers and positions that the ANC would create if it were to win elections there, such as premiership, mayorship etc, whilst undermining the basic fabric that makes the society in that province. It cannot be that the message that appeals to a society with so much socio-economic challenges will be from the DA, who have no experience of what that society faces, but have to appoint consultants to design their policies, whilst we who are the actual members of that society stab each other in meetings infront of hungry and homeless massess, where we should be listening to their plight and allowing them to work together towards a Western Cape solution! It cannot be unless all we are planning all this time is who will be the next premier, something we will never see until me appeal to those people so much ignored. As for them, they are playing their part, they said clearly, to hell with the DA and Shikota. They were not interested in the recent by-elections, certainly because of us! The people's patience is not permanent! Shikota is not a threat, we are our own threat! You cannot define the opposition in this country except against the ANC. Just as darkness is the absence of light, anything that will ever come to the South African political terrain will be the absence of the ANC.
