Greetings to all Revolutionaries I would firstly like to say that COSATU has yet placed the cat amongst the pigeons, the issue of succession or given a second term should be made a public debate that all South africans can participate in and voice out their concerns or oblidge to decisions taken there after. Ukhongoloze "ANC" should get into a trend of grooming its future leaders not only by a ballot paper but by setting a system of avaluation in place that can assess individuals that have an ambition to lead the country through academic institutions which will mould & nurture the individuals for the without compromising the ideology of the party. I think its still early days to bestow the Honarable President Zuma with second term because he is still to prove that he can turn our economy around without affecting job losses, the implementation of rural development is still sitting on his lap as we speak and other promises made in the manifesto before the elections, it will be advisable to discuss his second turn in 2012 conference after we "the electorate" are satisfied with his service delivery. ________________________________ From: [email protected] [[email protected]] On Behalf Of Dominic Tweedie [[email protected]] Sent: 09 June 2009 01:07 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [YCLSA Discussion] Re: YCLSA STATEMENT ON COSATU'S CALL FOR PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA'S SECOND TERM
Dear Comrades All are agreed that it is undesirable to begin a succession struggle at the beginning of every term of office. There is no argument about it. COSATU is saying that, and so are the ANC, the ANCYL and the YCL. The system of fixed or limited terms, which in our case means a two-term limit of 10 years in total, unfortunately makes such struggles practically inevitable, unless openly and consciously resisted. That is what we are all doing, including the GS of COSATU. In the present circumstances of the USA, some of the consequences of fixed terms can be seen. Hilary Clinton, the wife of the former President, is currently Secretary of State and effectively a candidate to succeed president Obama in eight years’ time, when she could be President of the USA until 2025. Her husband became President in 1991. In this way, the US polity is never free of sharp personal contestation, yet the effect is the opposite of variety, and never succeeds in creating decisive political change. The effect in practice is that it is possible and even quite likely that the “Clinton era”, characterised by vicious personalities and conservatism, can last for 34 years, and even longer if the daughter, Chelsea, becomes a politician. The problem is that the artificial limit interferes with organic political processes that would stimulate change at the appropriate time, and in the appropriate political conjuncture. We are all trying to guard against that kind of artificial interference. In struggle! Domza, VC! Some of us feel that there are indeed more pressing issues at this stage. The president can not be engaged with issues of terms now lest we be seen as being more preoccupied with position rather than service delivery and implementing Polokwane resolutions. ________________________________ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of siphakanyiswa khanyile Sent: Tuesday, June 09, 2009 11:00 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [YCLSA Discussion] Re: YCLSA STATEMENT ON COSATU'S CALL FOR PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA'S SECOND TERM Comrades , Cosatu and its leaders are entitled to voice their views and conclutions about their prefered leader of the ruling party for whatever term as they wish , and this is because they are part of the ANC family , But the ANC at the end will decide through constitutional processes as to who will lead the ANC in govt. or the party beyond 2014 . So let Cde Vavi voice his views '' what is really wrong with that. I see nothing wrong with that , whether Babu / Cde Zuma has agreed to go for another term , but the ANC structures put leaders forward not an individual or a few.. Kanti sizofunda nini ukuthi iANC isebenza kanjani , ezinye izinto azidingi ukutolikwa bakwethu , umthethosisekelo iwo oyonkombandlela '' Finish and Kraar '' if I quote Cde Jackie'' Take it easy cdes Amandla Cde : Sphaka , @Spruitview ________________________________ From: Samora Sello <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, June 9, 2009 9:27:08 AM Subject: [YCLSA Discussion] Re: YCLSA STATEMENT ON COSATU'S CALL FOR PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA'S SECOND TERM Comrade, Nicholas….. It is not correct to say that this is just a view as it was conveyed by comrade Vavi as conclusive, hence the anger. He said that this issue was closed because it was discussed with President JZ and he agreed to a second term. That is not how issues of succession are handled it the ANC. ________________________________ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Malgas, Nicholas Sent: Tuesday, June 09, 2009 8:47 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [YCLSA Discussion] Re: YCLSA STATEMENT ON COSATU'S CALL FOR PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA'S SECOND TERM You are very angry comrade and that makes me worried as this is just a view which indeed should go through the structures of the ANC to decide whether he should go for a second term. ________________________________ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of sipho shandu Sent: 09 June 2009 07:54 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [YCLSA Discussion] Re: YCLSA STATEMENT ON COSATU'S CALL FOR PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA'S SECOND TERM Cadre Samora and cadre Sakhile, I must however say that i am very dissapointed at cadres who think they can say whatever they want at any given point about an organisation guided by policies and principles like the ANC. When COSATU says that they want cadre Zuma to be president until 2019 they are contradicting themselves as well as the wishes of cadre ZUMA! Prior to the elections Zuma said that he would only stand for one term and thereafter make way for an incoming president of the ANC. Vavi must just get his house in order. One moment he is striking and the other moment he is speaking about a succession plan. What is he on about? What we should focus on right now is the issues of service delivery and beating the financial meltdown crisis we currently faced with. Let me pause cadres!
