Sibusiso has hit the nail on the head. Really, there's no use saying
"soapies are good because they employ people" - a whore house also
employs people!

Don't soapies get their name from "soap operas" - first radio and then
tv afternoon dramas to "entertain" bored suburban housewives? Aren't
they called after soap because the industry that manufactures soap
products realized that repetitive advertisements helped their sales?

Of course broadcasting corporations love these "soapie things" because
they bring in big advertising money but of what really value are they
to a society? Maybe it's like bubble-gum, just a habit but of no
nutritional value.

So why not have actors employed to reveal some of the dramatic history
of the continent? Why not teach something of value and entertain as
well?

Castro is correct to bring up this issue - it relates to being
conscious of what is happening around us. The bourgeois don't like to
be criticised and i assume that's the reason for reaction.
