Dear Cadres

I know that this is not an easy subject to talk about. I also know that
this is not an appropriate structure of our movement led by the ANC but I
need to get full knowledge from comrades because I am confused. Last year
and this year maybe, there were unfolding discussions which i think
emanate from a class struggle within our movement and broader society. I
have seen that other than to directly deal with what ever the difference
may be, some in our movement decided to focus on individual leaders, in
particular, the ANC Secretary General Cde Gwede Mantashe. I don’t think it
is because he hold positions as the media suggest because that is not the
first time happening in our movement regardless of the revolutionary
phase.

The question, I continue to ask, is why are we crucifying Mantashe? Which
of the ANC resolutions is he failing to address? What confusion has
happened in him occupying senior positions in Communist Party and ANC?
What wrong has he done since 2007? If I can get answers, I will be fine.
The name of our leader comrade Mbalula has been used to deal with
Mantashe. I don’t want to dwell much on wheather Mbalula is tempted or
not, but I want to deal with a critical aspect. Cde Mbalula is a leader of
note, a dynamo, brave, mature lion in making from the Young Lions
movement, the ANCYL and indeed a most active Deputy Minister in
government. My understanding is that, we need to assist cde Mbalula in his
ANC responsibilities of leading campaigns and organizational development.
He is best placed in the NWC. At the same time the Secretary General is
very good according to my own analysis. There is no need comrade to do all
what we are doing or say what we are saying about Mantashe and Mbalula.
The task of all comrades is to unite the movement and think about service
delivery of our people as oppose to thinking who must occupy a particular
position.

The incidents of 2005 to 2007 made us to learn a lot about factions and
contestations; we do not want to repeat the same thing. The 2012
conference will be the biggest conference of the ANC (centenary). We will
have to assess our contribution to nation building, African renaissance
and international influence in as far as democracy, peace, social cohesion
and economy is concerned. The issue of Leadership contest should not
occupy our minds comrades. We need a united ANC that is led by a united
and collective leadership. Yes, we need to encourage debates which remain
the culture of our movement, but such should be constructive and help us
to grow political and mostly to have an objective perspective on all
issues.
