*Clarification to the public and the media: Alex Mohubetswane Mashilo YCL Provincial Secretary GP* ** *29 March 2011* The YCL-SA in Gauteng province notes that the media fraternity and other members of the public have been confused by a similarity of names between our provincial secretary (comrade Alex Mohubetswane Mashilo) and a certain ANC renegade in Tembisa by the name of Alex Mashilo who has went out to contest against the ANC decision as an independent candidate for the local government elections. This is quoted in a City Press Article (27 March 2011) titled : ANC vs ANC for May 18 election as stating that “...In Tembisa township ANC branch chairperson Alex Mashilo said he was contesting elections independently in his ward after being overlooked by the party...” Our provincial secretary has since been bombarded by calls and smses seeking to authenticate as to whether the individual quoted in the paper is himself. For the record comrade Alex Mohubetswane Mashilo is currently heading our ANC victory elections campaigns, coordinating and supervising all districts of the YCL-SA in Gauteng fully involved in implementing an Alliance programme of decisive elections victory. Our Provincial Secretary comrade Alex Mohubetswane Mashilo and ourselves as the YCL-SA we totally condemn individuals who undermine democratic decisions and the constitution of the ANC by seeking to undermine the collective wisdom of the ANC and alliance partners in cooperation with local communities with respect to the selection of candidates with the necessary calibre and discipline to serve as public representatives in local government. Hence those candidates currently taking the ANC to court or standing as independents reveal themselves as true careerists who never belonged to the ANC but only saw it as a possible gravy train for them to further their personal ambitions driven by their insatiable desire for material gains.
