*ANC CAUCUS ON THE PUBLIC HEARING OUTCOMES FOR THE E-TOLLING SYSTEM*

The ANC Caucus in the Gauteng legislature welcomes the outcomes of the
public hearing which took place on the 11th of November 2011. The
petitions committee ensured that all participants, including any citizen
which did not have the opportunity to submit a petition earlier, contribute
and raise their views on the matter. The e-Tolling system has been a
vigorous subject of debate amongst Gauteng Citizens. The ANC Caucus
believes that submissions made will be vital in ensuring that a solution
comes out which will favour all stakeholders impacted. People and groups
present included various political organisations, ordinary South Africans
as well as business men and women.
It was emphasised that public transport remains exempted from the
e-Tolling system , but more importantly that consultation remains paramount
in any processes which would impact on the livelihood of our people. The
ANC Caucus further wishes to thank the petitions committee led by Hon.
Jacob Khawe, for a smooth process as well as the citizens of Gauteng for
using this platform for engagement. The contributions will also assist
immensely, members of the House to debate on informed views and
submissions, should the matter be proposed for debate in the House again.

Even though the matter has not necessarily been laid to rest, we believe
that the Gauteng Legislature through the petitions committee has taken a
plausible step in ensuring that this process becomes a collectively owned
process which will include the most important stakeholders and that is the
people of our province. The ANC Caucus remains committed towards ensuring
that our people are heard and their concerns taken seriously.
