*SADTU Media Alert, 17 January 2012* *Education Alliance Members to Visit Poor Performing Schools */in Limpopo and Mpumalanga/As inland schools begin their 2012 school year tomorrow, members of the Education Alliance, which is comprised of COSATU, COSAS, SADTU, YCL and SASCO, NEHAWU and ANC YL, will embark on a joint three-day visit to poor performing schools in Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces.
The purpose of these visits would be to monitor school readiness in terms of resources and learner teacher materials, motivate the learners and teachers and share ideas on what could be done to improve the results.
Education Alliance members will be divided into two groups made up of presidents/deputy presidents and secretaries/deputy secretaries. The presidents will visit Mpumalanga while the Secretaries will be in Limpopo. Limpopo received a 63, 9% matric pass and Mpumalanga obtained 64, 8%.
In Mpumalanga, the delegation will visit schools in Mkhuhlu, Thulamahashe, Marite and Acornhoek districts.
In Limpopo, the delegation will visit Vhembe, Sekhukhune, Mopani, Waterberg and Capricorn districts.
Besides the joint programme, all Alliance members have individual education programmes which will be carried through the year. These include:
1.*The YCL* - Joe Slovo Right to Learn Campaign;
2.*COSAS* -Back-to-School and Wanya Tsosi campaign to be run
jointly with members of SAPS to create safe learning environments;
3.*SADTU* -- Create A Learning Nation Campaign to deliver
teacher training anddevelopment programmes;
4.*COSATU* -- Adopt a School campaign;
5.***SASCO* -- Right to Learn Campaign
