SACP
*SACP Statement, 11 December 2012*** *Remarks by Banking Association MD and the General Attack on the Movement*The SACP notes and is extremely disgusted by comments attributed to the Banking Association MD, Mr Cas Coovadia in relation to policy matters to be considered by the 53rd Conference of the ANC. Instead of trying to blackmail the ANC conference, the Banking Association should be telling us what their own patriotic contribution to government priorities like infrastructure and job creation shall be. The SACP is sick and tired of the antics of a spoilt financial capitalist class that only wants to milk profits from our people without making any significant contribution to our overall developmental goals.
In the wake of rising levels of poverty, unemployment and inequality Mr Coovadia, the banks and the so called 33 senior executives are effectively calling on the ANC delegates to ignore that reality and be worried with the few rich who the banks serve and represents. There is nothing more irresponsible than this call. Delegates to Mangaung should not succumb to neo-liberal and imperialist efforts through rating agencies to impose policy options on our movement. The single and most important objective in the minds of delegates must be the wellbeing of our people. Ratings have never delivered jobs, food, quality healthcare or land for sustainable farming for our people.
The SACP is also outraged by groupings who masquerade as religious readers or researchers when in essence they are carrying out a political agenda, often in collaboration with some in the broader movement, to safeguard the interest of the tiny elites, both black and white. The hysteria and fear being thrown around is not helpful and must be defeated.
This is an overt class challenge for the soul of the ANC and the working class and the poor must be firm in action at the ANC 53rd Conference to reject this attempt at a class capture. Preferred class choices must not be imposed on us as if anyone of us less cares about this country. The SACP rejects this manoeuvre and we call on delegates to rise to the occasion to make this, the 53rd Conference of the ANC, a watershed moment in the second phase of our revolution!
The country must move forward to building strong manufacturing base and not serve few financial speculators!
