29 April 2013 DA’s discrimination against the poor brings back apartheid in Western Cape
The clear evidence of failure to deliver services to poor communities in the Western Cape under DA administration is beyond dispute. Poor communities throughout the province have raised their dissatisfaction in violent protests; latest being Phillipi residents yesterday; demanding land, houses, sanitation, electricity and water. The DA government has failed to prioritise community development imperatives instead maintaining the white middle class privileges and interests. Helen Zille has been leading a political gimmick portraying the DA as a party that fought for freedom and opposed apartheid when history is littered with evidence to the contrary. The DA and its predecessors such as the Liberal Party and Progressive Party were collaborators of the apartheid regime and regarded Black people as sub-human. This was demonstrated by their support for ‘qualified franchise’ for Africans. This meant they did not support the right of all Africans to vote but instead supporting that this fundamental right should be given to educated Africans only, betraying the meaning of government of the people by the people! This discrimination and prejudice by white liberals against Africans was a defence for established white material interests. Zille cites political stooges who change political parties willy-nilly such as Patricia de Lille and Joe Seremane to add credence to her claims that the DA fought against apartheid. These floor-crossing opportunists sold their souls and principle at the altar of convenience as they were lured by money and positions by the DA. If the DA was genuine and not just using Seremane, then why did they not elect him party leader when Tony Leon resigned in 2007? This proves that the DA uses blacks as tokens to have appeal which is the case with Lindiwe Mazibuko currently. Zille leads the same DA which had a racist “take back your city” campaign during the Local Government elections in 2006 and the “fight back” campaign in 1999 general elections which effectively denote whites take back their cityfrom blacks and fight back against the Blacks majority rule. Zille brought back apartheid immediately when she became Premier and appointed a white male dominated provincial cabinet confirming the paternalistic attitude of the DA towards women and Blacks in general. The DA is also purging Blacks in the administration of the Western Cape the latest victim being the Director General of Human Settlements. The Western Cape is the most untransformed as revealed by the employment equity figures released recently. The DA is daily bringing back apartheid by denying poor communities basic services and dignity. Working class communities are deprived of clean water, sanitation, refuse removal, houses which the DA has failed to provide. The DA even failed to meet the service delivery record of the ANC in housing provision in the Western Cape. The ANC built 72 792 houses in the Western Cape from 2004 till 2009, whilst the DA has only built 42 741 houses since April 2009 to date. The DA has actually regressed by failing to meet the housing development targets instead of progressively reducing the housing backlog. The DA continues to prioritise the material interests of white middle class and monopoly capital. The DA built bus infrastructure and bicycle lanes in Tableview and Milnerton whilst residents in townships desperately need safe and reliable transport, and road infrastructure without potholes etc. The continued effort to undermine the progressive developments of the ANC is an affront to the country and represents a regression to apartheid under the DA administration.
