NUM women march over violence

Hundreds of members of the National Union of Mineworkers Women Structure
will tomorrow march in Northam to present a memorandum to the leadership of
Angloplatinum.

The march which will culminate with a women's day celebration is aimed at
raising the critical issues of Gender-based violence in the mining sector.

This takes place in the wake of the assassination this week of an NUM women
shopsteward at Roland shaft in Rustenburg and the brutal rape and murder
last year of Pinky Mosiane.

The theme for the event is "Gender agenda: Build momentum on women's rights,
peace and security at the workplace".

The women workers will assemble at the RDP Sports ground in Northam from
08h00 in the morning.

The march will be led and addressed by COSATU's 2nd Deputy President
Zingiswa Losi, the SACP's Grace Pampiri, representatives of the ANC Women's
League, SANCO, PWMSA as well as the NUM President Senzeni Zokwana.
