*PRESS STATEMENT * *South African Communist Party& Young Communist League SA Northern Cape 2nd Joint Plenary Session held on the 20-21 September 2013 at the SACP Provincial Office*
* * *Introduction* The South African Communist Party convened its extra ordinary planning session jointly with its youth wing the Young Communist League SA in the province over the weekend of the 20-21 September in Kimberley. The meeting is convened just a month after a highly successful National Alliance Summit, where the alliance emerged more united and stronger. The joint PEC meeting also happen during the month of the SACP recruitment month, “RED WEEKEND” where we retariated the SACP`s call for a once-off general “CREDIT AMNESTY” for the working class and the most poor. *National Elections 2014:* A detailed elections report was presented by the Provincial ANC’s Elections Team. The SACP/YCL SA PEC members engaged on the report and renewed the political commitment to rigorously campaign side by side with our alliance partner both as ANC members andindependently throughourParty program to defend the gains of the National Democratic Revolution. Through our own Red Brigades focusing on the Red Wednesdays and Saturdays, Bua Thursdays and People’s listening forums (i.e street corner meetings) together we will deliver on the targeted 70% electoral victory as allies in the province. *State of the Organisation:* The Political and Organizational report reflected on contemporary matters including the current state of the trade union, and the expected role of the SACP in defending and rallying behind the unity of COSATU. The ideological rupture and internal antagonistic contradictions which the PEC said it should be properly managed by the broader movement. The SACP in the province condemn any efforts by anyone who are calling for a split within the Federation. The PEC meeting agreed that a weak COSATU is not in the best interest of our revolutionary struggle, and the struggle for Socialism and its unity (of the working class) which is sacrosanct. *Work in Trade Unions:* The PEC resolved to work tirelessly with Cosatu and its affiliates on political and ideological training through joint political schools and jointly mobilise and rally workers behind the financial sector campaign and continue to build red unions. *Sol-Plaatje University:* The SACP in the province welcomed the announcement of the University and characterised the moment as epoch making and further thanked the Sol-Plaatje family in supporting and endorsing the name of the new university in the province for all South Africans and the world. We particularly want to thank the leader of the Sol-Plaatje family, Mr Sebeka Richard Plaatje who diligently led the family during our consultation sessions culminating in the historic launch of the University. The Sol-Plaatje University should definitely serve as a beacon of hope, and assert a content and orientation that advances the interest of the working class and the poor.We further appreciate the family’s proposal that the new University should become the custodian of the legacy of Sol-Plaatje. The PEC also congratulated the SACP chairperson Cde Maruping Lekwene who is serving on the University`s interim council and wished him well in this revolutionary task bestowed on him by the working class and the poor. *International Relations:* The PEC noted the retreat of the United States in the creation of a pretext to bomb Syria, and applauded the stance taken by many countries including South Africa on condemning military intervention as the solution to the challenges facing the Syrian government and its people. The PEC also noted that there is no scientific proof on who unleashed the gas towards civilians in Syria and on the same breathdenounced the ongoing attempts by MIC (Military Industrial Complex) and the AIPC (America Israel Public Affairs committee) to push for war against Syria.
