*YCLSA Press Statement*

*YCLSA** supports ANC-led government in its “slowing down” of relations
with Apartheid Israel*

The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] supports the ANC-led
government in its "slowing down" of relations with Apartheid Israel. In
fact, relations with the Apartheid State of Israel should be terminated
altogether! When the rest of the world was imposing boycotts and sanctions
against South Africa during the 1980s, the USA and Israel were the last
allies of Apartheid South Africa (supplying weapons, including building
nuclear weapons with Apartheid South Africa).

The position of the Israeli parliamentarian, Avigdor Liberman, that South
Africa is anti-Jewish is false. South Africans, in their numbers, are anti
the policies of discrimination and racism practised by Israel against the
indigenous Palestinians, and, increasingly, practised by Israel against
Africans. However, our position against Israel does not make us anti-Jewish.

We have had and still have, for example, principled Jewish comrades that
speak out against Israeli Apartheid including Joe Slovo, Ronnie Kasrils,
Denis Goldberg and several others. In fact, solidarity with the
Palestinians has brought South African Jews, Muslims, Communists and all
other peace-loving people together, not apart.

The YCLSA stands proud, as one of the many organisations in South Africa,
behind the Palestinian struggle for self-determination. The ANC, SACP,
COSATU, ANC Youth League, SASCO and several other South African
organisations have a long standing commitment to the Palestinian people.
The Palestinians will overcome, like we overcame; and an end to Israeli
apartheid will be a step towards a more peaceful world.

Finally, the Israeli lobby in South Africa will try to arrange back-door
meetings and pressure our South African government to bow down to Israeli
and USA imperial interests.

We say to them, your pressures will not work, simply because the South
African government is led by the ANC and the ANC is voted-in by the
majority of our people. The ANC's policies in turn reflect the majority of
South Africa, not one or other lobby group.
