South African Communist Party, Moses Kotane District, 27 April 2014 Disruptions of PYA Rally Led by NUM Youth Forum at Rustenburg Ward 24 Today, as we officially mark 20 years since the dawn of democratic government under the political leadership of African National Congress, we have noted another greatest disappointment of the immature behaviour from opposition parties that has been established by frustrations with clear intentions of reversing the progressive gains of our democracy. It is with regret that a violence incited by some shenanigans in Rustenburg Ward 24 (Freedom Park) resulted on leaving two members of the SACP and Councillors of Rustenburg Local Municipality homeless after their residences were burnt. Some of the victims are the district secretary of YCLSA in Moses Kotane District who is also a ward councillor and the speaker of the local municipality's council. Since ward 24 is surrounded by settlements occupied by employees of the nearby mines, their anger and frustrations due to their long unresolved industrial actions led by counter revolutionary union is also acknowledged and might have direct impact on what has transpired. It is a fact that Rustenburg area has been turned into an unofficial political battlefield during this epoch and we will not allow any area as a no-go area simply because it is through the effort of the tripartite alliance led by ANC that a freedom of speech and association has become part of basic rights and we will never allow any agents of darkness to derail us on ensuring that people of South Africa enjoy those basic rights. We condemn any sort of violence portrayed by any individual or organization and we are calling our members to remain calm and allow relevant government agencies to take its course. We are appealing to the ministry of police to quickly respond to the prevailing situation as it is not even conducive to the ordinary citizens in that particular settlement.
